Sustainability

“But is it sustainable?” This is often asked after a presentation on employment generation in relation to the provision of infrastructure.

This is usually considered to be a knockout blow. However, most infrastructure is dependent upon public funding of one kind or another. This is even more the case for municipal infrastructure. Thus, sustainability is dependent upon the flow of public funds. If the funding continues employment can continue to be generated along with the provision of infrastructure.

Whether the programme will continue to be effective is dependent upon factors that are not related to labour-intensive methods.
